The mountainous<\/strong> terrain, extensive Algarve coastline<\/strong>, and the Mediterranean and Atlantic<\/strong> influences of its climate are the characteristics that mark Algarve wines.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

In the region, vineyard<\/strong> culture coexists with traditional fruit trees<\/strong> in the Algarve, such as the fig tree, almond tree, and carob tree.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

These conditions also have implications for the complete ripening of grapes, with a direct influence<\/strong> on the quality of wines, in terms of smoothness, sweetness, and aromatic expression of grape varieties, applied to the 3 product categories<\/strong>: Wine, Fortified Wine, and Sparkling Wine.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The characteristics <\/strong>of the soil, sun exposure, climate, <\/strong>and the surrounding mountain<\/strong> ranges to the north, maritime influence<\/strong>, and human factors<\/strong> expressed in cultural practices<\/strong> and grape selection<\/strong> allow for the production of wine with Algarve Geographical Indication.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

– RED WINES<\/span><\/span> –<\/h6>

Produced<\/span> from<\/span> indig<\/span>eno<\/span>us<\/span> grape<\/span> varieties<\/span> such<\/span> as Negra Mole <\/span>and<\/span> other<\/span> traditional<\/span> and<\/span> international<\/span> varieties<\/span>, <\/span>perfectly<\/span> adapted<\/span> to <\/span>the<\/span> reg<\/span>io<\/span>n<\/span>‘s<\/span> terroir<\/span>, <\/span>they<\/span> mostly<\/span> result<\/span> from<\/span> a <\/span>blend<\/span> of<\/span> several<\/span> grape<\/span> varieties<\/span> with<\/span> complexity<\/span> and<\/span> richness<\/span>, <\/span>imparting<\/span> them<\/span> with<\/span> a <\/span>characteristic<\/span> Algarve <\/span>profile<\/span>. <\/span>There<\/span> are <\/span>also<\/span> good<\/span> single-<\/span>varietal<\/span> wines<\/span>. Algarve <\/span>red<\/span> wines<\/span> with<\/span> Geographical<\/span> Indication<\/span> are <\/span>smooth<\/span>, <\/span>pre<\/span>senting<\/span> a <\/span>perception<\/span> of<\/span> sweetness<\/span>, <\/span>smoothness<\/span>, <\/span>and<\/span> alcohol<\/span>, <\/span>with<\/span> low<\/span> acidity<\/span> and<\/span> gentle<\/span> astringency<\/span> resulting<\/span> from<\/span> the<\/span> high<\/span> temperatures<\/span> that<\/span> characterize<\/span> the<\/span> reg<\/span>io<\/span>n<\/span>‘s<\/span> climate<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

– WHITE WINES<\/span><\/span> –<\/h6>

Produced<\/span> by<\/span> blending<\/span> several<\/span> grape<\/span> varieties<\/span> or<\/span> single <\/span>varietals<\/span>. <\/span>They<\/span> are <\/span>typically<\/span> delicate<\/span> and<\/span> smooth<\/span>, <\/span>sweet<\/span>, <\/span>and<\/span> slightly<\/span> alcoholic<\/span>, <\/span>very<\/span> fruity<\/span>, <\/span>and<\/span> with<\/span> light <\/span>acidity<\/span>. <\/span>They<\/span> may<\/span> show <\/span>wood<\/span> aging<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

– ROS\u00c9 WINES<\/span><\/span> –<\/h6>

Produced<\/span> from<\/span> a <\/span>slight<\/span> ma<\/span>cer<\/span>ation<\/span> of<\/span> red<\/span> grapes<\/span>, <\/span>they<\/span> have<\/span> a <\/span>pink<\/span> color <\/span>and<\/span> are <\/span>aromatic<\/span> but<\/span> smooth<\/span> and<\/span> sweet<\/span> with<\/span> mild<\/span> acidity<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

– FORTI<\/span>FIED WINES<\/span> –<\/h6>

The<\/span> Algarve <\/span>reg<\/span>io<\/span>n<\/span> has<\/span> a <\/span>long<\/span> tradition<\/span> in <\/span>fortified<\/span> wine<\/span> production<\/span>. <\/span>Until<\/span> brandy <\/span>emerged<\/span> in <\/span>the<\/span> 17th <\/span>century<\/span>, <\/span>raisin<\/span> wines<\/span> were<\/span> made<\/span>, a <\/span>Mediterranean<\/span> tradition<\/span>. <\/span>Grapes<\/span> were<\/span> left<\/span> to <\/span>dry<\/span> in <\/span>the<\/span> sun<\/span> to <\/span>gain<\/span> con<\/span>centration<\/span> and<\/span> sugar.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>
